The Food Service Department at Greater Harlem Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center is available from 7 am to 7 pm in order to provide meals and snacks to the residents. Food is prepared under the supervision of the Food Service Director and Registered Dietitian.
Meals are prepared with fresh ingredients every day and are in accordance with the residents’ prescribed diets, cultural and personal food preferences to stimulate appetite and optimize the dining experience. The menu is seasonal and is in a three week cycle.
The menu is varied in that we offer foods that are popular among a wide variety of cultural taste. The menu considers both the therapeutic requirements of the residents and their preferences. Meals are served in an attractive, sociable environment.
Residents who wish can eat lunch and dinner in the day room on their floor. Residents are encouraged to be as independent in feeding as possible and to utilize the dining experience as a socialization tool.
Family members are more than welcome to observe and assist at meal times.
Greater Harlem also has a Feeding Program for residents with poor appetites who require assistance with feeding. They are brought to the Day Room 30 minutes before lunch and supper are served. They receive a longer period of assistance with eating and benefit from the increased socialization that this gives them at meal times. This has led to increased appetite and weight stabilization.
