GHNHRC HOSTS ANNUAL CCLC TOWN HALL MEETING

On Thursday, March 13, 2008, GHNHRC was pleased to host the annual Continuing Care Leadership Coalition’s (CCLC) Manhattan Legislative Forum.  Senator Bill Perkins was scheduled to be the guest speaker, however, as many of the legislative leaders found themselves being called to Albany that week, Linda Guy was sent as a capable representative in his behalf.  The President of CCLC, Scott Amrhein, whose organization represents more than 100 not-for-profit and public long term care providers in NY, gave an overview of the Executive Budget Proposal for 2008-2009 highlighting the Governor’s proposal to cut more than $900 million to home health agencies and nursing homes.

In attendance was Assemblyman Richard Gottfried, Chair of the Health Committee; who presented, on behalf of the governor, the supporting view for the proposed health care cuts.

Community residents and representatives from several nursing homes gave voice to why reconsideration of these drastic measures would adversely affect the health industry and the population at large.

  •  How we achieve a balance between the wants and needs of our residents
  • How we recruit, educate and train our volunteers
